US National Privacy Law Introduced in Congress
As ZenPrivata predicted, a US National Privacy Law is looking more likely.
Senator Klobuchar last week introduced a bill to protect the privacy of the personal information of all US citizens. Its main focuses include giving US citizens the right to opt out from having their personal information collected and a data breach notification rule that requires companies to notify users within 72 hours if their data is breached.
Currently, only companies that have users in particular US states are subject to privacy laws. California is most notable.
Once a US National Privacy Law is passed, all US companies will be subject to privacy laws.
