Frameworks in Privacy and Cybersecurity

One great thing about cybersecurity now in 2022, is that there are plenty of resources to help you get started.  The CIS Critical Security Controls are a great example. Implement these 18 controls (and some sub controls), and you’ll be on the path toward building a cybersecurity program. While not tailored specifically for any one organization these control frameworks can help get you 80% of the way with 20% of the effort. Important in an understaffed organization.

Unfortunately, few such guides existed for privacy. That is, until ZenPrivata created the “Top 15 Privacy Practices™.”

Like cybersecurity controls, the ZenPrivata Top 15 Privacy Practices enable organizations to begin a privacy program or accelerate an existing privacy program. Implementing these 15 practices, and you’ll be on the path toward building a strong privacy program.

By analyzing general privacy regulations like GDPR, CCPA, LGPD and others, ZenPrivata analyzed the Top 15 practices needed for a strong foundational privacy program. The practices cover the key components ranging from finding personal information in your systems, to having a plan in place in the event of a breach.

The Top 15 is also a guide that enables organizations to accelerate an existing privacy program. Perhaps your program is strong in particular areas, but is weaker on one or two controls that have somehow “slipped through the cracks.” The Top 15 can help you identify gaps in your program, helping you determine where to focus your future efforts.

The Privacy Top 15 can also help open the door for management discussions around privacy priorities and help determine resource requirements.
